Random Review: Fast Break Walmart Hobby RePack Product Round 2

(Insert bad joke here about this being my second post this week of items that I have reviewed for a now second time.) So I thought that these were sold out as I haven’t seen them in a while. Maybe someone hid one and I found when it was put on the shelf. At $12.99 with 2 jumbo packs, I took the flier again. You can find my first review here: Random Review: Fast Break Walmart Hobby RePack Product Knowing that I would get what is pictured, and being a fan of Pinnacle and Prestige this was an easy choice for me.

The Hoops pack was, as usual, loaded with inserts. Nothing flashy to my knowledge but not much junk either. The Steve Nash Lakers card is a proof. I separated it into my commons pile but caught it.

Like last time, I was expecting a jersey card from this pack when I picked it up – after I opened the box as it otherwise unsearchable. Unfortunately what I felt was a decoy card. I didn’t know that they put decoy cards in jumbo hobby packs. Another artist proof was pulled in this pack; actually two proofs.

Like this proof numbered to 25 of one of my all time favorite players ever.

I know that most of you are tired of the Prestige act and so am I to be honest. I have no reason to open more packs, even with the following hit. This is consciously one of the last posts of my Prestige collection.

I opened the Prestige pack first, not expecting anything at all. What I ended up was a case hit of a premium player. I didn’t have this card and thought that it was out of my price range. Realistically if I found the right buyer I could get $18 to $50. This isn’t going anywhere though.

I know that most of you are tired of the Prestige act and so am I. Despite this hit, I have no reason to open more packs. This is consciously one of the last posts of my Prestige collection.

Random Review: Two Ebay Hot Packs

Recently I saw a question on Twitter asking if anyone got anything good out of Ebay hot packs. I have been avoiding hot packs for a while because I bought some about five to ten years ago and never pulled anything good. I feel that I did buy them for the right reasons though. I remember that I was curious about a set and with blaster boxes having no guarantees, I would rather take a flier on a hot pack, as opposed to a few retail packs for the same price.
I have nothing against the packs themselves, I just question the sellers. How did the sellers know there is a hit in there? How do they know what type when very few boxes list the specific types of hits you get. Were they the vilified pack searchers that we hate at retail stores? Were they resealed junk hits?
I felt like taking the dive for two reasons:
1. I felt that this would make for a great post.
2. I basically own every hit for sale for my Prestige collection. I figure the few that I am missing, that should be affordable, are in packs somewhere. So kind of out of desperation.

Obviously I bought a Prestige pack. After I won that I got a Donruss Racing pack for six bucks from the same seller. As a SoCal vegetarian who is a member of the LGBT+ family, Nascar and me kind of go like oil and water but I do own a few Nascar cards. Whenever I find a cool looking Nascar card in the cheap boxes, I grab it. They have some awesome event used material, that offers unique material – it feels wrong saying event used, but I don’t think they are called games. These two packs cost me around $15 when all was said and done. So basically $7 a pack. If they are unsearched, you really can’t go wrong at that price.

The picture above was taken as I was looking for any signs of tampering. I didn’t find any.
Let’s start with the racing pack because I would only know the white whale hits.

Bobby Allison autograph. I have no idea who he is but this card is selling for $10 right now on Ebay. So if it does sell for that much, when accounting for fees, I can make my money back.

The next pack was the Prestige basketball one.

I feel that I did amazing with this pack. A four colored patch numbered to twenty-five. I have the non-Prime version of this card. Funny story about this card, I went through a lot to get the one I had before. You cannot find this card listed on Ebay or COMC. It is just one of those that you think would be a dime a dozen but I had to buy Panini Points then get the card through that program to finish off my True Colors set. So not the hit that I was looking for but if I put it on Ebay, I will be the only one selling it so I will have some leverage. I will keep it for my personal collection though because it is a great card. It wasn’t the Isiah Thomas (Pistons) Bonus Shots jersey, Peja Bonus Shots autograph, Michael Finley Bonus Shots autograph, or Kobe Bonus Shots autograph that I need but hey, I did great.

Maybe I got lucky but I feel that I did great. A Prime patch out of a hot pack, I feel that I am the one that got away with murder when I probably did a little better than break even. Still this was a fun little exercise. I probably won’t buy many more hot packs but I have a little faith now.

Pickups: Thanks again Deb

Meant to post this a few days ago but I have been fortunate enough to be busy this week. Two job interview, a meeting at an employment office, as well as Deacons duties. I celebrated my busy week by opening two boxes of cards. I opened my 2 Prestige 2013/14 boxes. I still have my GoGTS Christmas box sitting on my desk.
So lets take a look at the boxes that were given to me by someone amazing, This is what’s great about the hobby: Thanks Deb

4 hits per box. 2 autos and 2 jerseys

Box 1:
20170406_190949

20170406_191041

The way that it worked out, is that what is seemingly the worst hit of the box is actually the best hit in my mind. I needed the Al Jefferson jersey card.
Other hits were Tyson Chandler & Isaiah Canan autographs. While I have the Chandler auto, I am so versed in Prestige boxes that I know that there is only 2 or 3 Distinctive Ink per case. That card was the only numbered one as it is limited to 50. Otto Porter rookie jersey is the last hit.
This box also yielded 2 silver Bonus Shots parallels.
Not a bad box one bit considering the product. For what the product is, this box is probably above average.

Box 2
20170406_190805
20170406_190846
Despite beating the odds and getting 5 hits, this box was nothing special. It was as if Panini knew that fact and threw in an extra autograph to make up for it. Corey Brewer, Epke Udoh, and Jan Vessely autographs; non of which were numbered, another atrocity. Channing Frye and Otto Porter jerseys round out the box. Yes, I pulled 2 Otto Porter jerseys.

I still love this product. I am getting close to finishing off my True Colors jersey set from it. If I account for what it is in my COMC account, and not my custody I finished off the Prestigious Premieres auto set.  I can’t wait to take a picture with all of those cards together. My sole focus and nothing else has been this set. Collect what you love. It will be priceless to you.

Impulse Buy: a New Year, a new Adventure

I bought into a break from http://ptownhobby.com/https://twitter.com/P_TownHobbyBox.

Let’s start this off with adventures in USPS. I am not one to compulsively check on tracking but this was so absurd that it caught my attention. Package went out on a Monday. It started by saying that I would get the package on Wednesday; even though I thought that was unrealistic. Then it got bumped to a realistic Friday, which seemed very realistic and normal. Package didn’t arrive Friday so I checked and it said Saturday. Saturday it didn’t arrive. I checked and it then said Wednesday. So naturally the package arrives on Monday. A full week after which is fair and realistic but tracking lies. I do want to state, for buying into a break, I wasn’t expecting a tracking number. I know Ebay gives that option for free at times, but I still appreciated it.

I don’t buy into many breaks. They usually have to be a product I love, my favorite team for cheap, or some other deal. In this case it was an auction style format for a half case of my super PC. I tried to get any team for under $3. That failed but I did end up with one team for $3.25. That team was the Grizzlies, probably my favorite team. Realistically I didn’t need any Grizzlies cards from this set but I didn’t mind the chance at a base team set or another Marc Gasol relic. I was looking for Bonus Shots parallels though.

So the break is 6 boxes. It is New Years Day. As we are going through it, I am trying to amuse myself. This is the one product, that I know inside and out so I am providing tidbits in the chat. 3 boxes in and I haven’t even seen an insert from the Grizzlies. 4 boxes, same thing. I start to tune out and focus on other things. At box 5, I am starting to get hungry and I am finding other things that I could do in the house. My boys want to play a game with me. 5 and a half boxes and nothing. At this point, I thought all the hits and parallels were gone from the box I was so zoned out that my mouse was hovering over the close button on my internet browser. It gets down to the last 3 packs. So naturally I hit a parallel. Okay I am perked up. I got a parallel. That’s all I am thinking that I am going to get. Next pack, boom an autograph from Jerryd Bayless. Remember at that point, I thought that all the hits were gone but it ended up being the last hit. I ended up paying about $5 with shipping and ended up with some value.

When I got the cards in the mail, apparently I overlooked another parallel unless it was thrown in. I also may have overlooked an insert. Silver parallels fall one per hobby box. Interestingly, I don’t think Bayless is in the base set of the product.

Pickups: A Steal of a Beal

I was hoping to post something different but USPS had other ideas. Instead, I am posting my second purchase of 2017. Regardless, I paid less than $8 combined for the cards in this post and presumably my next post.

Since Blowout Cards posted 13/14 Prestige basketball boxes for sale at rock bottom prices, my main PC, I have been on the hunt for steals. These cards are from the year. I normally avoid other years like the plague, because of budgetary reasons but this one caught my interest. It had a card of a player who I think very highly of in Bradley Beal; like very highly of. I am not sure that I would trade this pickup for a Klay Thompson autograph or other player in that tier.

3 autographs for $3. The other two are current Raptor Cory Joseph who is a decent role player and Jordan Hamilton who is out of the league. These two were actually teammates on the 2010 Texas Longhorns.

Pickups: COMC Black Friday finds

I have never bought from Check Out My Cards (from their site, as I have bought off their Ebay and Amazon due to having gift cards from those stores) but when I told my mom about it, she wanted to give me credit for it for my birthday. I saved that credit until Black Friday and took advantage of their free shipping deal. Unfortunately, I am not posting this because the cards have been sitting on my desk for a while, they did not come until 3/4 through December even though I submitted my order on Black Friday.

Scored a Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson autograph for under $15. Bret Hart and him are my must own wrestling autographs so I just need  Bret Hart now. The Daniels/Kazarian autograph was under $3. I was bummed when I didn’t pull a Daniels autograph from TNA boxes- Random Review: 2010 TNA Blaster Boxes.

Random Prestige odds and ends round it out.

Pickups: some Jammin cards

Jammin JD does a lot of good stuff in the hobby. I personally enjoy watching his Youtube breaks.
As I was doing some recent Ebay shopping for my Prestige collection, I came across a card that he had for sale that I wanted. I didn’t buy it right away because I emailed him instead figuring we could avoid Ebay fees, and I might get a better deal. Turns out, it worked in my favor that I emailed him because he had some parallels I needed that weren’t listed.

So if you see a ‘Buy It Now’ listing and know the person selling it, try messaging them in other avenues. You might get rewarded with a deal, and you help them an added layer of fees. They win, you win, and the cards win because they found a good home.

Pickups: add-ons to the Prestige collection

Polished off an Ebay gift card that I had with several additions to my Prestige collection.

Another autograph of CSUN’s current head basketball coach Reggie Theus to add to my collection, a Shaq jersey that I got for under $10, and a bunch of red parallels. I am 50% through with the red parallel set.

Derick Coleman, Nicolas Batum, Mark Aguirre, Herb Williams, Kyle Korver, and Greg Stiemsma autographs

Bid Board Finds: 2 Basketball Patches

Going to do 2 posts this week, today and tomorrow, as I wanted to do my haul at Northridge Sports Collectibles justice. This is my haul from Valley Sports Cards.
I was there when the bid board closed so I was able to get the few cards that I wanted.
$2 for the dual patch, Bayless & Smith numbered to 99
25 cents for the Hester Unparalleled numbered to 99
A buck for the Noel Rookie jersey that I can add to my massive Prestige 13/14 collection

Pickups: A reasonable Ebay seller

20160729_202223

Given my budget, I don’t usually buy cards that are more than $5 on Ebay but I couldn’t help myself with Ebay seller “rookiedsmia.” I made an offer on the Eric Gordon Prestige card, and he accepted so I perused his listings. I snagged another ‘best offer’ with the Ziggler autograph. I got a great deal that turned into a steal when he became the number one contender for the title at Summerslam this week – seriously, who saw that coming?

These are two very important pieces to my collection.  I am a massive collector of Prestige basketball and this only my second ‘Stars of the NBA’ autograph as they fall one per case. This is also my first autograph of a wrestler. You should definitely check out the seller, he is awesome.
