When it comes time to get me presents, my mom has great taste. She collected cards with me as a kid, so it’s not surprising. For Christmas she got me a blaster of this year’s Upper Deck hockey and a factory set of this year’s Donruss football. Her goal was to get me something that I wouldn’t buy normally but wanted. She hit it on the head this year.
Pulled 2 inserts and 2 Young Guns cards. Young Guns were of Denis Gurianov & Samuel Morin. Inserts were an UD Portraits of JT Miller and Shining Stars of Zach Werenski. I was hoping to pull some Vegas Knights base cards but didn’t get any. I have only one Young Guns card on my wishlist in Adrian Kempe so it was unrealistic to expect to land that.
As for the oversized card, I pulled one of the best card’s possible in Nico Hischier.
Since my best friend is from Denmark, I have become partial to Denmark players and not because my buddy acts as if every Danish player is the second coming of Wayne Gretzky. Fortunately for my sanity, my buddy hasn’t needled me on Oliver Bjorkstrand’s greatness; yet. I found out about him on my own. I was reading an ESPN article about Columbus rookies and thought that I needed to have his rookie card. It cost me under $2, but unfortunately was the card that came in the mail in a plain white envelope and no top-loader to protect it – see this weekend’s post. Fortunately it came out fine though.
Ideally I would sandwich a post about Prestige here but I didn’t open another box since my last post. Instead I give you another hockey post.
I got caught up in the Young Guns hype and was desperate to open a few packs of Upper Deck Hockey. Between Dylan Larkin’s show during all star weekend, and the seeing your pack breaks on Twitter, I have been desperate to catch this product.
It took me a while to find anything more than a few retail packs of the product because it has been sold out everywhere I go, a rarity, but I finally found one. I came across a bunch of Series One tins at WalMart. For once I didn’t care about the price so I grabbed one at $30; and with that I am on ramen and whatever is in the cupboard until the 4th when I get paid – I had an unexpected expense pop up this month. At 12 packs for $30, not a bad value though.
