Who Am I?

August 2nd, 2018

A lot has changed from my original entry for this which I have decided to keep below. Naturally, I can’t be a college student forever. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies from CSUN (Cal State University Northridge). I also have my Associate’s in Social Sciences from College of the Canyons; a school that you may recognize as being featured in almost every Disney Channel movie. I hope to continue my education and earn a Master’s degree and/or Doctorate.
Currently you can call me a ‘community leader.’ I am active in my local community and the sports card community. I wrote a book about my coaching experience, which you can buy on Amazon by clicking the book link. Hey, I have to promote my outside entities somehow and I know that a lot of collectors will end with some level of involvement in youth sports anyway.
When I started this site, I started it out of frustration with the sports card community. This was the basic level of frustration that any consumer experiences if they take a step back to breathe. I felt like I was caught in an endless cycle of buying, not being appreciated, buying again, and; well you get the point. I felt like every person in the cycle was not appreciated. Now as someone who has grown and matured in the community, I still have those opinions but they are not thorny as they used to. The system is still messed up but now that I have seen how the system works, I can tell you why and have better opinions on how to fix it.
That said, I try to limit my ramblings about the negativity on here. I try to target my negativity to things that are controllable: who we break with, which online stores to avoid, people scamming people.
If you came here expecting me to slam every card company under the sun, then you came to wrong place. The bad part is that I started this site as an average collector and have now become more than that. If there is a blatant grievance about something then feel free to share it with me; especially on social media. If even an ounce of me agree with you, I usually re-Tweet it or share it on Facebook.
Over the years since I have started this site, Angry Card Collector has become my identity. It is funny, I did not strive for that. It is just something that organically happened as I tried to grow the site and its entities. I could have taken the site in a lot of directions but I am happy with the direction it is in now, posting things that I feel the average collector and member of the card community would care about. It truly is a blog of the average collector. Angry has somehow got lost in the shuffle and as someone who strives on levelheadedness, I am okay with that.

Just some angry card collector who is sick of being taken advantage of.
I don’t have a lot of money. Who am I kidding, I am broke and live off of dollar menus and cereal. Born in 1985 and back in school because of the economy. I am a full time student at CSUN (Cal State University Northridge) and volunteer every year to coach baseball, basketball, or football. I used to do a lot on the music side. If my name is familiar, that is probably why.

I have been collecting for as long as I can remember. I have been fed up with things in the card community for a while. I am not going to get into them here but it is all covered in “The Letter.” Despite this, I still collect. I don’t think that I will ever stop.
I am just an average dude. I believe in collecting what makes you happy. Currently that is Prestige Basketball for 13/14, any Los Angeles Dodger, Carolina Panther, Eric Karros, Larry Walker, and Tom Glavine card. To a lesser extent I collect any Los Angeles Kings and wrestling cards as well.

I am not a high end collector. I rarely buy boxes and my collecting consists of bottom feeding cheap auctions, dollar bins, and bid boards. I have never paid more than $40 for a card. With the exception of the occasional blaster box, I rarely cross the $8 threshold on purchases. I am one of the little fishes trying to survive in this big ocean that is the card collecting community. I am angry at the sharks, and I do not pretend like pretend like I am anything but a gritty minnow.

  1. Thanks for visiting the website. I don’t know about you but my time is valuable and the fact that you gave me yours even to type this is appreciated. The fact that this comment came unsolicited, made my day even more as I have been busy working.
This is picture is a few years old. I would like to think that I blossomed into officially looking like a middle aged lesbian instead of just merely resembling one. By the way gay jokes are so 1990s. I hope that you grow out of your bigot tendencies. If you want to actually meet people who your derogatory comments affect and you are in the SoCal area, let me know. They are a great community and I am proud to be a leader in it despite being a heterosexual male.
